Fishing in the Canary Islands
With the islands surrounded by the rich waters of the Atlantic Ocean the Canary Islands are a fishermans paradise all year round. Fishing in the Canary Islands is most famous for the blue marlin that populate the waters around the islands. The marlin in the Canary Islands reach sizes bigger than anywhere else in the world, anything from 550 to 1100 pounds. That´s a lot of fish suppers!
Arriving at any of the beach resorts on the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera and you are sure to find a game fishing boats operating. Many fishermen will be here for the big game fishing, hoping to reel in marlin, tuna, shark, rays, billfish or sailfish.
Book a day of fishing and typically you will be "trolling" setting out artificial lures as the boat sails along, hoping to catch the eye of one of the big game predators who like to hunt for their dinner. Once you fish is on the line, you will have the classic struggle between man and fish, get positioned in the fighting chair to reel your catch in.
