Gran Canaria Excursions

Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands and is known as a mini continent due to the difference in temperature from the North to the South its combination of city life with lazy beaches and vast mountain ranges. The island of Gran Canaria offers something for everyone.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing holiday or an active one then I am sure you will fit in an excursion or two. There are lots of excursions on offer from Boat trips to Jeep Safari or even just a day out at a water park or on the Camels. A lot of the popular excursions get booked up before hand so it can be a good idea to reserve your place before you arrive. Below you will find some information on what trips are available where.

Starting up in the North for those of you arriving in Las Palmas on a cruise ship you will pull up straight in front of CC El Muelle which is a large glass shopping centre which won an award for its design in 2006. The centre is full of shops, bars & restaurants to keep you occupied during your stop. If you would like to venture out of the port then you can get a taxi to El Corte Ingles which is the Las Palmas equivalent of Harrods with 2 buildings both with 6 floors of clothes, electrical goods, furniture, souvenirs, restaurants, pharmacy, supermarket and much more.

If you are staying in the south and would like to book an organized trip to Las Palmas for shopping or to take in the history then you will be taken to Triana which is a popular high street with lots of shops, bars and coffee shops. Vegueta is also well worth a visit, its a beautiful picturesque town with its canarian houses, iron street lamps and cobble streets the town is bursting with culture not to be missed. Also very popular at night.

Why not try a shopping trip to Atlantico in Vecindario only 15 – 20 minutes from your hotels. This is where the locals do there shopping so you can make the most of the local prices with perfume, clothes, shoes & electrical shops all under one roof.

Just outside San Agustin you have Playa de Águila which is home to Sioux City a Wild West town with replica houses, bank, church, and salon bar where you can see the show girls on stage and your cowboys and Indians in the main street. The town is spread over 320,000 sq metres and has plenty of things to see including a bank robbery, saloon fight, hangings, Indian rain dancing, acrobats, whips and knives and lots more…Open every day except Mondays from 10am – 5pm and has a Special Show night on Friday including a BBQ and all your drinks.

Some more popular Gran Canaria Excursions are Jeep Safari or Buggies where you get to go off road and see the real Gran Canaria with its rough mountain ranges and beautiful lakes. Helicopter rides, Trekking, Mountain Biking and Scuba Diving are all on offer.

New to Gran Canaria at the end of 2007 is the Ferrari Excursion, this is an excellent idea if your going on holiday with someone for a special occasion.

Moving down to Puerto Rico you will find various boat excursions like Fishing with White Marlin, Felusi, Blue Marlin 3, Cavalier, Sailfish, Dorado or White Striker. Catch a Ferry to Mogan with Lineas Salmon or Blue Bird. Look for the Dolphins & Whales aboard Spirit of the Sea, Multiacuatic, Magic or Babymay. If you feel like sitting back and relaxing why not try one or more of the all day cruises / sunset cruises on Sagitarius Star, Sailcat, Afrikat, Bouche en couer, SuperCat or Timanfaya.

Paracending & Jet ski’s are also very popular Gran Canaria excursions here on the island along with a trip to the local water parks – Atlantida in Puerto Rico or Aqualand in Maspalomas.

Moving down to Puerto de Mogan you will find a picturesque village otherwise known as little Venice. Its home to the Market on a Friday and also has some quaint bars and restaurants overlooking the harbour. More boat trips are available from here including the Yellow Submarine where you get to see the ship wreck just outside the port.
